The Arcade Story: A History of Leadership And Innovation
How does a company succeed for more than 100 years?
Through an ongoing commitment to excellence and innovation.
Arcade has evolved from a small printing company at the turn of the 20th century into a leading sensory sampling company. By embracing new ideas and new technology, the company has been successful in inventing, developing and licensing innovative sampling technologies.
The company was started by Charles Douglas, who opened a small print shop in Chattanooga in 1902. In the first half of the 20th century, the company grew rapidly and earned a reputation for quality printing among local businesses. In the post-World War II era, the company broadened its scope to meet the booming needs of printed advertisers.
In 1979, the company developed a revolutionary new product that forever transformed the company—as well as the beauty, fragrance, cosmetic and packaged goods industries. The ScentStrip® was a breakthrough form of promotion which gave consumers an immediate opportunity to experience a product. It became an instant hit that spawned a new way of approaching consumers.
Arcade has continued that pioneering tradition by maintaining a commitments to R&D. Arcade’s focus on new product development has led to the creation of many proprietary sampling technologies.
Today, Arcade Marketing’s pursuit of excellence and innovation is more dynamic than ever. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Visant Corporation, a leading marketing and publishing services enterprise servicing the school affinity, direct marketing, fragrance and cosmetics sampling, and educational and trade publishing segments.
